I'm not diabetic myself, but since no one else responded, I wanted to say that as long as you're taking care of your blood sugar levels and the HbA1c is good (might discuss with your endocrinologist if the number aimed at is the same or lower), you're good to try and conceive. If you're on insulin anyway, the silver lining is that, since you're probably be testing your bsl regularly, you don't have to fear gestational diabetes since you can, if levels change, just adjust your already implemented treatment. However, every pregnancy in a diabetes patient is automatically classified as high risk and it can occasionally be more difficult to keep the optimal treatment, so you should definitely have a close relationship to your doctor's office in addition to the midwife. After getting pregnant, up to week 20 your body will likely need less insulin, after that it's the opposite due to the hormonal balance.
Pregnancy will likely require more check ups and revision of medication than a regular pregnancy, but regarding the diabetes I think that it might be harder for someone who "just" suffers gestational diabetes. You're already familiar with your condition and it's treatment, so while it will still need to be adjusted, you'll likely deal with it well. Or so I hope. If you're not seeing an endocrinologist specializing on diabetes and or pregnancy, I'd give that a shot if it's possible. I'm also unsure if there is a special community for pregnancy and diabetes... so far I'm a bit surprised that you received no response here from other fellows suffering from diabetes.
