Obesity

I am writing to ask about obesity and pregnancy. I am not pregnant (yet), though I'd like to be. I am obese, and when I read about the higher risks of defects and complications, it scares me a lot. My weight is especially an issue because I have PCOS and fibromyalgia, so losing weight is a long process that is not going fast ( Read more... )

I was 270 when i got pregnant. I had type 2 diabetes and asthma. So I was high risk to start. I have a wonderful smart little 6 month baby. If you feel healthy and able I say go for it.

If I waited to be healthy in weight i would be waiting until I died. So i took a chance and won.

If you have any kinds of complications besides weight that might interfere i'd talk to a fertility specialist but otherwise if weight is the only thing holding you back, i recommend doing what you can to lose weight but don't delay ttc in the process.

obviously, i am not a doctor but this are my opinions from being where you are.

I started out at 315 lbs when I got pregnant. at 9 months pregnant i was 298 pounds. It was weird but the only reason I was high risk was because of my Cerebral palsy.

I have a happy healthy 4 month old now. He seems to be doing good other then being allergic to dairy like I am.

We did find out I'm a Fragile X carrier when I was pregnant though. I'm getting my tubes tied soon because of that reason. I really dont want to pass that on. Thankfully my son didn't get it.

I am technically obese, and currently 27w pregnant. I've had an incredibly healthy pregnancy so far, and baby is developing right on target.

The doctor you have also makes a HUGE difference. I was not automatically put into the high risk category just because of my weight. I've always been pretty healthy, so I didn't expect anything less than a healthy pregnancy and my Doctor expected the same.

We did struggle for many years with infertility, only to discover that it was most likely not on my end, as it had been thought. I did not have PCOS, but I do know that can be a struggle when trying to become pregnant.

I have PCOS and I'm obese. It DID take me awhile to get pregnant--almost 2 years. But I'm 12 weeks now. We had to do some fertility treatments. I will say that I think working out and eating healthier helped a lot.

So no, it's not impossible.
