Still breech...and Doctor refused to do a version.

My baby boy has been in the frank breech presentation since about 30 weeks.  We have tried sooo many things to get him to move (spinning babies, time in the pool every day, chiro adjustment etc etc) and it's just not happening.  I am now 37 weeks.  I had scheduled an ECV for last Thursday, they do an ultrasound beforehand to see if you're a good ( Read more... )

Grab yourself a copy of "Cesarean Recovery" - it's got great tips that made a huge difference for me - take it with you to hospital ( ... )

Yes! Thank you! I'm so tired of getting this vibe from other women that I'm somehow a failure because I think that scheduling a c-section is better than attempting a breech birth when all the medical professionals are telling me that based on ultrasound measurement (I know they can be off) a breech birth would be a bad idea. If this baby was not measuring so large then I might push for it.
I really feel that a breech birth is one of those instances where a cesarean is ok.

Thank you for the book recommendation!

I know ultrasound measurements can be off (they predicted my baby was 'normal' sized until suddenly they discovered he was larger than 95%! at 37 weeks, and I was having near weekly u/s by then) - but remember that while many will tell you of the time they were wrong, there are many who were spot on/close enough. I actually asked that once somewhere in this comm and a LOT of women came in and said "my doc said big/small, and they were right" vs a few who said "doc got it wrong". Who knows in your case - they might be right, they might be wrong - on the day if you are going to be worried about it that won't help your headspace with labour ( ... )

Yeah, placental previa (even partial) is another valid reason for a c-section.. no one wants to bleed out during the birth of their child! Thank you for sharing <3

I love what you wrote about the sometimes necessity of c-sections. This is something I didn't believe until I had to have one!

Oh man. Sometimes they ARE necessary. I had a few poeple in this comm in my last pregnancy try to tell me to have a natural birth. Partial placenta previa is SRS BSNIS and they didn't know what they were talking about!

It's wonderful that this community has so many pro natural/normal birth people, and it's what we all really hope for (well most of us! I suspect those who don't just shut up :P) but the reality is that until I've done about 15yrs of university study and post graduate study, and completed the thousands of studies that pour in to some of these decisions, I'm not going to second guess the person I entrust my and my future child to. I'm going to ask them questions, I'm going to explore other ideas with them, I'm going to do my best to work with someone who is open minded and alternative thinking so that I don't get boxed in... but I'm not going to pretend to know how to do their job better! I'm a business analyst/project manager... Let me loose on your business efficiency program, not your childbirth!
