I very rarely have had to "scrape" poop off a diaper. Normally when the baby is EBF you can just throw poop and all into the diaper pail and it washes off fine, and once they are eating solids you can sort of "shake" the poop off into the toilet. Occasionally I swish the diaper around in the water to get some extra poop off but it's not usually necessary.

I personally would much rather wash diapers than have blowouts that get the baby's clothes dirty, and cloth decreases blowouts by a LOT. (My son had an occasional one, but my daughter is 8 months and she literally has NEVER had a blowout in a cloth diaper.

There are SO MANY systems out there for cloth. Go cheap with prefolds and covers or go expensive with fitteds or in between with pockets, or get some of each and decide what you like later. I'd caution you not to buy a whole stash of something before the baby comes because you may decide after using them that you don't like them. I would suggest going over to the cloth diapering community because they have a ton of info there and can answer questions. :)

OMG, this about the blow outs! We CD my 7 month old and used disposables while out of town for Thanksgiving and every single poop was a poop explosion, which meant more washing clothes. I don't have that problem with my CDs.

Ugh, me too. My daughter had a bunch of blowouts in cloth, but I think that was mostly a sizing issue. My son (almost 5 months) has barely had any blowouts EXCEPT when we put him in sposies over vacation -- he blew out nearly every time he pooped. It was sort of astounding. Up the back, out the legs...I had never appreciated cloth so much before...

I had no idea what you all meant by 'blow out' until this comment, so thank you!

Blow outs are common in disposables...usually poop coming out of leg holes (meaning the diaper isn't fitting correctly) or up the back (which tends to happen with new sitters and I have not found any way to avoid that in a disposable diaper except put a cloth diaper cover over a disposable).
