A bit of a weird question that no one will be able to answer, but asking it will make me feel better, so here goes...
"Second babies come earlier". How true is this?
The reason I ask is because my EDD is Nov. 24th, which is THANKSGIVING DAY. Now, the big problem here is that my mom is planning on coming to California for a few weeks when the kid is born (she lives in New England). If the kid comes on its EDD or a few days later, she's going to have a REALLY tough time getting tickets (even expensive ones). Also, she's saving up vacation time so she can spend the maximum time with us, but since we have no idea when the kid is coming, she can't plan ahead.
Also, I was counting on having my brother (who lives close to me and has a very flexible schedule) around during my homebirth to wrangle my older son. I do NOT want him around while I am laboring and giving birth, he's very sensitive and won't be able to handle it (not to mention the slight possibility that I might end up transferring, and he definitely wouldn't be allowed in the hospital). So I was hoping my brother could keep him out that day, take him to museums, the library, the park, etc. After me and my husband, my brother is the one my son trusts the most and is most comfortable with. We're not very social, so we have a small circle of friends. All of my friends work, and would not be available during the day to help me out at a moment's notice. My brother wants to go to India for our cousin's wedding (which is December 1 or 2). If I wasn't due the week before, I'd be going too. If I could guarantee that the baby would come on or before my EDD (Nov 24), I'd tell him to "go ahead and book the tickets, take lots of pictures, and guard the groom's shoes with your life (Indian wedding tradition)". But since we have no idea when the kid is coming, he can't book the tickets until the last minute when they will be very, very expensive.
So what are the chances that I won't have to force my family to spend three times the normal airfare because this kid came on a holiday weekend, or too late for its uncle to go to India? Did your second babies arrive significantly earlier than your first ones did? My first son came about 5 days after his EDD.
