Hey ladies,
I'm just hoping for someone who's "been there done that" with low platelets?
I am 23 weeks and just got the news that my platelets are lower than normal (guess it's abnormal for them to be this low this early for no reason other than "pregnancy") and since they are at 100 now, the doctors are worried that if they go below 75 I'll need all these interventions to make sure that they don't get below 50 in case I need an emergency c-section.
From what I understand (and could grasp from the dr yesterday) Under 75,000 = no epidural, which is like, ok whatever who cares? But under 50,000 = no general anesthesia, which would be bad in case of an emergency? OR it's like under 50,000 ONLY general anesthesia, which would suck even more than having a c-section because then I would have to miss the "birth" of my baby... or whatever.
Now, everything they have explained to me makes sense, I get why they are worried (had pre-e last preg so they are worried about HELLP, it's a VBAC so "riskier" for a C-section, my platelets are guaranteed to drop as the pregnancy progresses) and I get why they want to intervene before they get too low around delivery.
BUT... almost all of the interventions (transfusions, etc) involve an induction date... mainly because the transfusion would take 3 days, and then on the 3rd or 4th day would be best for me to deliver because the platelets would be the highest then... and after my last induction, my only wish for this preg (other than a healthy baby, obviously) was NOT be be induced...
SO
Has anyone had this problem, and if so, what did you to to try and raise platelets before interventions? I've been reading things about diet and stuff, but I'm not sure if it'll work, I mean it can't hurt, but if I'm going to be eating nothing but salads and legumes for the next 4 months, I want it to be worth it lol.
Hoping for some insight! Thanks in advance!! :-)
