So, wednesday night, around 7pm I was in a LOT of pain, and had thrown up everything I ate or drank even water for the past 3 to 4 days. I called my OB and she said come to the ER right away and that she would call and let them know I was comming. So, I got dressed, hubby got dressed, I threw up again just before we left, and we were on to Chrustus St. Johns. We got there and they sent me straight to L&D and hooked me up to monitors for me and the baby. I wasn't allowed to have anything to eat or drink until my blood and labs got back, which sucked, because after not holding down food or drink for days I was starving. They admitted me, and put me on IV fluids and antibiotics for the rest of that night. All I was allowed was crushed ice. I was in so much pain from the galbladder and GERD pain that I was begging for antacid, which I did not get until the next evening. I saw my dr the same night I arrived, and she was her usually bitchy self with her terrible bedside manner and told me that there was near nothing they could do for me, and that if I really wanted them to they could send me downtown to Houston Medical Center and I could have the surgery there. The next day, I wasn't allowed breakfast, but was allowed a little apple juice. I didn't get any sleep at all the night before between the nurses comming in to check my blood pressure and draw more blood, and the uncomfortable hospital bed. I did a lot of tossing and turning. The next night wasn't any different. The next day for lunch, the surgeon ordered me a liquid diet, which included broth (gross broth), jello, a lemon shaved ice cup, and apple juice. I wasn't fancying the broth, but I did have the jello and the apple juice. I got lucky, because my OB, also ordered me a bland diet. So I got 2 lunches. The 2nd lunch included a toasted roll, breaded chicken alfredo, veggies, and some other stuff. I ate that too because I was starving. Of course, less than 30 minutes after I ate I was feeling TERRIBLE, and just could NOT manage to hold my lunch down at all. We called the nurse to let her know what happened, and she came right in. She gave me something in my IV called Protonix(sp??) and told me I wasn't allowed to have anything until dinner, if then. The surgeon came in after about 2 or so hours to talk more, and discussed options with me. They really didn't want to do surgery unless they had to, due to me only being 30 weeks. They did do an ultrasound on my gallbladder and the baby, and found that my gallbladder is absolutely PACKED with gallstones, and is very inflamed. We did get a bit of good news, baby Taryn is doing very well and weighs anywhere from 3.8 to 4lbs give or take a few ounces. I kinda figured she was okay, because the entire time I was in there she was kicking and turning and making noises with the fetal monitor and had the hiccups twice :) They gave me a bland dinner of meatlof, mashed potatoes and gravy, a wheat roll, and some other stuff, which I was able to keep down. Also, finally they gave me Maalox, which immediately helped my pain. I got through another night, and my blood tests came back revealing that some of my liver enzymes were up. I managed to hold down breakfast, and saw the surgeon again. They told me I couldn't leave until I had spoken to the dietician. She came in shortly after lunch, and gave me and hubby the rundown of the new mandatory diet for me to follow. Basically I can't eat anything LOL Nothing that I ate before. The surgeon told me that I should have my surgery as soon as I recover from having the baby because it's only going to get worse.
Has anyone else had gallbladder issues through pregnancy??
vomiting,
emergency room visits,
gallstones,
