Leave from work...

So I had my little guy at the very end of last month and it's been a battle with work to try and get time off - I've only worked there since August so I didn't have enough PTO built up to take a full six weeks off and I didn't qualify for FMLA since I haven't been there for a year.
Since we had an unassisted child birth (or rather every medical care provider dropped us from their care) I don't have a doctor to sign off on my medical leave. This has been a fight with HR since three weeks before my birth. I expressed my concerns to my HR rep, and after two weeks of back and forth phone tag they said I would have to have a doctor sign off on my leave...well - here's the problem, no one will touch my leave papers because they think it makes them liable for my birth and since I'm in a state where direct entry midwifery is illegal then I couldn't have a midwife attend my birth. So I'm stuck...
I tried to have the ER doctor I work with sign the leave (as HR suggested), his reply, "I don't know who told you that, but we can't sign those." I tried taking the form to my previous OB (another suggestion from HR) and they said since I was no longer under their care they don't feel "comfortable" signing it.
I feel like my job is not accomodating me - being discriminatory because I chose (or rather was forced) to have no sort of medical care because I chose to have my baby at home - the way I felt was the best for my family.
I'm going to lose my job if I don't have this leave signed - and halfway tempted to talk to a lawyer to see if they can do this...
Pregnant - help me out...is there anything I can do?!

Any suggestions will be helpful
TIA!
