postpartum bleeding

Is it normal to have a slightly brown colour of blood, like a dark rust shade? I am not sure my stitches are healing very well. I am 6 days post-partum and to be honest haven't been taking it as easy as my midwife suggested, so i'm thinking am I just triggering more blood loss or do I have the start of an infection?

Any information on this would be great.
