Hello all...I'm currently 33 weeks & 1 day pregnant. I've struggled with my weight for most of my life, and pregnancy has been difficult for me in that I've had to look at the numbers on the scale going UP and be okay with it.
In high school I balooned up to about 190lbs (I'm 5'5"), and took about two years to loose fifty pounds - down to 140lbs. I was blissfully happy at that weight for a few years, although when I met my husband we each put on about fifteen pounds over the next three years.
Long story short, I started this pregnancy at 155lbs and I'm already up at 195. In other words, I've gained 40 lbs. I've been doing what I can - eating healthfully, exercising without overdoing it, keeping flexible with yoga and lots of walking...but I've still put on a lot. The doctor recommended that I only gain 25lbs, so I'm already well beyond that and I've got a few pounds left to go before we're through with this! My husband says it's all in the belly, but I don't believe him...it *feels* like it's in my hips, thighs, bum, face...
My question is this: what did you do to loose the weight after you had your baby? I'm really afraid that I'll have an 8lb baby and then have about 40lbs to loose, and it'll take me two years like it did before...Is it really that hard? Is it the same as loosing weight when you've gotten fat from overeating, or is it different because it was pregnancy weight? I'm desperately hoping to regain a sense of control over my weight after I give birth - I've never felt less in control of my body than I do now! Even when I put on a bunch of weight in high school, it was because I was eating too much, pure and simple...in other words, I was completely in control of it even while I resented it.
But now...ugh. I'm packing on the pounds and I'm well above what the doctors recommended, and I want some tips and tricks for getting it OFF as soon as freaking possible!
And yes, we're planning to breastfeed for at least one year for reasons other than maternal weight loss, but I know it's supposed to help :)
Edit: THANK YOU all. I feel much better. Most of what you've said is what my husband and my father have said to me, but I suppose I didn't believe them since neither of them have been pregnant, given birth, or lost baby weight! I'm assuming it'll be a challenge, just like anything else that's really important and worth doing, but I'm going to let my worries about it go until AFTER baby arrives. As my husband says, now is not the time to worry about losing weight - now is the time to worry about eating as much healthy food as I can find so that our baby gets the best nutrition. The time to worry is AFTER...so I will wait.
Thanks again :)
