around what time did you begin to notice you were unable to get a good, full breath? i was 25w yesterday and today it feels like i can't seem to take a full breath. my baby center update that i read today said my uterus is now the size of a volleyball!! i'm assuming that is probably why. my ribs have also been tender to the touch for the last week ( Read more... )

I dont know what to tell you about the breathing darlin'. But I also live in Northern Canada (BC) and didnt really bother with winter boots even before I got pregnant cause I hate the pair I have. Last winter (the first year I lived here) I really mostly wore my sneakers or a pair of Dr Scholl's that had no ties (they came up to about my ankles though, so they're higher than regular shoes). BUT I live in town, so if you're more rural, that may not be an option for you. :( What about getting a custom pair of mukluks? Depending on where you are, they might not be too expensive, and you can get them cut low enough on your calf to struggle in I think.

I know I cant wear my sneakers already (24w tomorrow), if we get a ton of early snow this year and my Dr Scholl's fail me, I dont know WTH I'll do about winter boots either.

Can I also just say that every time I see your icon in this community, I sit and stare at it for several minutes? lol

i'm in northern BC too! yeah i have a pair of emu (like uggs) boots but they are tall and a pain in the ass to pull on. i didn't even think about trying to find a pair of ankle type boots.. i bet i could slip those on a bit easier. i live in town too but when we get a snow dump it doesn't matter where you are there is a shit load of snow. i have a few pairs of more stylish leather flat boots but they don't even fit my feet now.. my feet are so much wider now :( i'm hoping it goes away after pregnancy and it's just swelling but somehow i doubt it. i've read the bones in your feet separate and it doesn't go back to normal.

Yeah, I've read the same thing. Honestly, I just bought myself a fresh pair of pull-on Dr Scholl's cause it's getting too cold for sandals and I definitely cant wear my sneakers anymore. I know there's a woman on Etsy who did mukluks, but I havent looked for a while. I think Backcountry sells several pairs of insulated, low pull on type shoes/boots too.

I'm in Ft St John btw. Where did you find a midwife in northern BC?? The BC College of Midwives didn't have anyone listed for north of Prince George/Quesnel, or that was the route I was going to go. As it is, I drive 3 hours into Grande Prairie, AB to see an OB there.

And now you got me looking at the Backcountry website. I may go pick up a pair of these babies myself! They look comfy and warm, but shouldnt be a PITA to pull on...

oh wow i'm in prince george! i had a very hard time finding a midwife in town, my first choice (jane hedges) was booked up and wasn't going to even be here for my due date (i'm due december 18th so everyone is going on holidays), my second choice is gone away on holidays, and i didn't contact the other midwife in town because i didn't think she would be a good fit for me. so i am now seeing sarah hilbert-west in quesnel who we just love! she is amazing, and it really sucks having to drive 1.5 hours for our appointments, but it's worth it. we are planning to have a hotel birth in quesnel. however, i've recently contacted jane hedges about doing my postpartum care, and she said she definitely will because she is not leaving town now.. and that we are on her wait list if one of her clients has her baby early, or has to transfer her care, then we can have our birth in our home in prince george. i'm not sure how close quesnel is to fort, but if you're already having to travel 3 hours you could try and contact sarah. she is amazing. have ( ... )

I appreciate the info! Unfortunately, we're a good 5 hours north from Prince George. We thought about seeing an OB in Prince George, but even 3 hours is better than 5. I have a hard enough time getting my husband to drive me to GP for appointments and ultraounds! Plus the company he works for is headquartered in Grande Prairie, so they're going to let him transfer there for December so we can stay there and he can still work while we wait out the last month. As much as I'd love to have a midwife, and hopefully will be able to have one for #2 (we want to move next year), but I love my OB and she's incredibly supportive of my natural birth plan, so I don't mind too much. I'm so glad you found a midwife though! Prince George seems to be the northern cutoff for most services and things like that. We want to move to Red Deer, Alberta next year, and I cant wait! I grew up an hour north of NYC and FSJ feels very very small town to me. I miss cities!

lol i had no idea fsj was so far away from pg. i definitely feel your pain with having to travel. it sucks so bad. that is awesome you'll at least be there when you go into labour though, and that you've found a great doctor. i hate thinking about a bumpy 2+ hour winter car ride while i'm in labour to quesnel lol. i hope jane ends up having a cancellation so we can have our birth in our home.

I hope she has a cancellation for you too!! One of my biggest fears before his company said he could go work in GP for the month was having to drive the 3 hours in a blizzard while in labor. Especially as there's a whole lot of nothing between here and there. I've only driven from PG to Quesnel once, but I dont remember alot in between the 2 either.

I have no helpful boot comments, but I am currently looking for some myself, lol. I'm in the Northeast US and we can get tons of snow too.

As for feet going back to normal, after pregnancy, mine did. They went back to the same size if not a little smaller (I used to be a 9 wide, now I am just a 9). I am assuming a similar pattern with my feet this time around. However, my hips got more wide and they were already wide to begin with before I was pregnant.
