I just had my first doctor appointment today. I am transitioning care from my group of midwives to a family practice doctor who is very supportive of my desire to VBAC. She's worked with my midwives before, and I'm going to have one midwife at the birth who is going to act as my doula.
I really, really, really like everything about my doctor. She says she's very hands off during labor, allowing the mother to set the pace, and she likes working with doulas. One thing we talked about though that I'm not happy about is that the hospital requires continuous fetal heart monitoring for VBAC patients. She says they have telemetry monitors, while will allow me to move and use the birth pool, but she says they can still be annoying to wear during labor. Does anyone have any expereince with these? I didn't find much info on them online.
Other than that, she said that she will support me having the labor of my choosing. She has a son the same age as ours, and she still nurses him too (yeah! I previously had an OB tell me I needed to wean while pregnant), and thought it was great that I was going to tandem nurse. She even told me about a patient she had that tandem nursed a toddler and the toddler gained almost 10 lbs while she was on maternity leave... that will totally be my son because he can't wait until I have milk again.
