We found out about two weeks ago that little Imbrium is in a breech position. (She had been head down for weeks before that.) I'm 37w 5d as of today, and we went for an ECV two days ago. Unfortunately, it failed. They told me last week when they gave me an ultrasound everything was fine, and then on Monday (after 45 minutes of trying very hard to get her to turn) they said that her pelvis was already a bit engaged and she wasn't going to turn.(Btw, ladies, ECV sucks big time. So incredibly painful and I'm still very sore two days later.)
Luckily, she's in a frank breech position. But the doctor said somethings that did worry me, because I think he's incorrect. He also made some very vague statements that I'm going to need to get clarification on before I go into labor. He said to me he thinks that I'll have a 50/50 chance of needing a c-section. (Here in the Netherlands they train to try to give birth vaginally if at all possible.) He said I get an automatic episiotomy because the cervix will probably not dilate enough because the head is the biggest part of the baby.(As far as I was aware that is not true, because the baby's hips/buttocks should be as big as the head in a term baby, which mine is.) He also said that if everything isn't perfect and textbook with my labor it will mean an automatic c-section. He did not explain what he considers a perfect, textbook labor.
Now, I'm not against having a c-section, but I think that unless it's absolutely necessary for me or the baby, we should avoid it. Everything I've read seems to say that most problems with breech deliveries come from the medical interventions and inexperience of the doctors and are not inherent to the breech presentation. So we're going to try to avoid that if at all possible.
So I guess I'm asking if anyone here has any experience with a vaginal breech birth? Any suggestions, info, good sites?
I'm going swimming tonight to do headstands in the pool and I've been doing breech tilts, but I'm not sure if that will have any effect anyway, and especially now that she's partially engaged.
:) Any help or info is *HUGELY* appreciated.
