So I have been responsibly employed with a county job for a couple of years...except now I am going to get laid of in August. I am due in January, so I would really like to get another job (I tend to go crazy otherwise). Well, then again I started thinking that it might make more financial sense to collect unemployment for a while. Really, I am not lazy, but I figure if I got another job, I would not be eligible for FLMA or the employers leave--it would all be unpaid time off. On the other hand, I could get unemployment which at least secures a fair shot that I could collect for a bit (plus I am pretty sure I am not going to get even close to a comparable job offer...especially if I disclose that I am pregnant). I am really thinking out loud, because I am pretty uneducated about the unemployment process, especially complicated by pregnancy...Last year when I got a lay off scare, there were at least some low wage jobs in the county that I would be able to take..I don't think that will be an option this year, but if so at least I would maintain my benefits and get the leave...I would love it if anyone had any info about the California laws as it relates to my situation...
