I'm from Michigan and i would definitely lean towards warmer clothes. Maybe some lighter things to wear in the house, but I think I would make the majority of clothes something warm to wear.
i am from the chicago area, however i am due in the middle of july. I got both long sleeves and short sleeves. Since i cant stand the heat and i always got my air conditioner on during the summer. So long sleeves for inside and for chilly days and short sleeves plus a jacket/blanket with us for whenever we are in a store or at somebody's home to keep the baby warm too.
I was debating as well, cuz the last two years we had 85 degrees in some parts of oct..
I'd get both. I'm in Northern Indiana as well and I was in a wedding last year in October and it was like 85 degrees. There's that cheesy saying and it applies to fall as well "if you don't like the weather, wait a few hours."
Short sleeved onesies are nice too to put under other clothing as well, so picking up a few for that might be a good idea.
I'm planning on buying things that can be layered. Remember, a short-sleeved onesie can go under a little hoodie or sweater (or swaddle blanket), so it won't be a waste to have around.
My first was born Sept. 15th. I'm in Wisconsin. We mostly had warm outfits because i was actually due the beginning of Sept., but in the end I think we didn't use as many of the warm-weather things. Remember that babies get cold pretty easily. We ended up using lot of short sleeve onesies with pants, and then little hoodies or button up shirts for his top. I liked the layering because sometimes we'd go somewhere and they'd have the A/C on freezing! The zip up one-piece outfits were great for nighttime. I also really liked the gowns with the elastic bottom for nighttime changes when he was really little. September is a great time to have a baby!
