My husband and I have a wonderful, nearly nine month old daughter. We're also talking about a second child.
My first pregnancy was high risk for the pregnancy itself, but the labor and delivery were normal, low risk deliveries. My pre-natal care was done primarily by an OB/GYN though some of it was done by a CNM who works in the same practice. I was in the "whichever midwife or OB is on call when labor and delivery happens" group rather than the "must have the OB on call" and the midwife I liked said that if my Dr. wasn't on call (and my doctor was wonderful-supportive of natural birth and breastfeeding, incredibly hands off, minimal interventions, didn't object to my skipping the GTT, etc-the other two he practices with not so much) she'd come in and deliver the baby even if she wasn't on call...she gave us her pager and cell number just in case we needed it.
So now that you have the backstory...
We're meeting with the homebirth midwife that everyone around here seems to like-including my friend/doula who is now beginning her studies as a midwife and will be working with the midwife. Just a consult to see if she'll consider taking me as a client based on my history and to make sure my husband is comfortable with her.
I have no idea what to ask though. Because I'm not pregnant, it's not urgent that I choose a midwife, so I have plenty of time to ask questions and interview midwives.
So what would you ask if you had plenty of time to choose a midwife? Anything in particular that you would want to know if you had had a previous high risk pregnancy?
