The good news is most people will be willing to pretend they don't remember seeing this, and if you give it a week or so, that's actually going to be true.

Is that your professional diagnosis of the situation?

It's an observation based on personal experience.

In other words, you're not willing to stake your professional reputation on it.

My professional reputation isn't based on the degree of other people's interest in your personal life.

Which means no way of holding you accountable if and when you're wrong.

Very neatly done. I approve.

Would it make you feel better if someone was accountable? Tough having no one to blame but a magical City.

Your sympathy to my plight is noted. And I presume you won't be counting yourself among the "most people" you initially mentioned, right?

I have a good memory. I'm not going to be bringing it up.

I find that hard to believe. What's the catch?

Why would I want to? It sucks being expected to want to do something just because you're good at it. You think I'm going to be interested in making you go over that at a later date?

How nice. Someone who finally stops dancing around the figurative elephant in the room and just mentions it already.

Yes. But only assuming you don't attempt to make me go over it now.

I don't have any expectations of you, Rudy.

Well, I expect you to be hypervigilant and overly literal, but you seem to enjoy that.

Ah, the understanding route. My guidance counsellors tend to favour that method, too.

I don't have expectations. You're not my kid. If you want to go and dig a tunnel under the library, it's not my job to stop you. Your guidance counsellors get paid for that.

Indeed. It's quite the racket. They misguide my parents into guiding me into undesirable situations, and they get paid for it.
