An Italian Renaissance? Do you even know the circumstances in which that occurred? I severely doubt that could have happened with reptiles. Wait, why reptiles?

[ooc; little note, I'm a history major, with some focus in early modern, I will argue the Italian Renaissance thing to the ground fyi]

Do space aliens have no appreciation for irony or sarcasm?

[OOC: I am most decidedly not a history major! And I imagine Rudy's not any particular expert, either, so he'll probably deflect the conversation if it starts getting too in-depth.]

You do realize that I am human first? The space alien thing is an unfortunate side effect.

In that case, do humans with the unfortunate side effect of being space aliens have no appreciation for irony or sarcasm?

I just don't see how an "Italian Renaissance" developed amongst reptiles. That doesn't make sense.

And I fail to see what brought about the convention of naming turtles after the Italian masters. Hence, my question.

...because people like to make allusions to the past. Why do you think many schools like to teach about their respective past's mythology?

And yet I have encountered no reptiles named after the French masters. Or any of the other ones, for that matter.

...but aren't the French universally disliked for everything... except their foods?

Mais non. And you might want to watch how loudly you say that, or Reinette might hear you.

[Tsurugi switches to fluent French]

I am not insulting the French themselves, just the reputation they have gained.

[Fortunately, Rudy also knows enough to make conversation.]

I have a feeling she takes her reputation very seriously.

Did I say I was judging her reputation? The person shouldn't be judged because of the stereotype of a culture.

You did reference a stereotype of a culture she identifies with. She might take offense to the reference itself.

[ In French, also. ]

And what sort of reputation have we earned?

The French in what could be considered the modern world have an attitude which could be considered rude towards others... in particular to those who can't speak French.
