[Accidental Voice Post]
[The audio begins, slightly muffled, to the sound of people milling, idle chatter, and a general sense of commotion, punctuated with a series of nearly inaudible taps and clicks as chess pieces move on a wooden board. This goes on for a short period of time, the steady rhythm of tapping and clicking gradually growing more syncopated, before at last a voice rings out clearly from within the white noise of the shuffling crowd.]
There it is! Miller's Blitz Play!
Eh? Blitz play?
Blitz play. [Is that the sound of someone's glasses being adjusted in a stereotypically instructorial manner? Quite possibly.] It comes from the German term for "lightning". In a game of blitz chess, the maximum duration of the entire game is only six to ten minutes, which is three to five minutes per side. That means that every second counts for each player, and moves must be made extremely quickly to compensate. It's a highly advanced level of play.
But isn't this just a regular game? Why is Rudy making his moves that fast if he doesn't have to?
Watch closely.
[A pause.]
Ah--his opponent is making his moves faster than before, too!
It's a psychological strategy on Miller's part. He pressures his opponent by setting a faster pace, which disorients his opponent and allows Miller to control the flow of the game.
Wow...he's really amazing!
[There is another pause, a faint chatter of voices, and then an abrupt cheer goes up.]
Oh! His opponent blundered! Miller, now's your chance!
This defeat is yours. Game over!
[And now a cry of triumph among the spectators follows as, inaudibly, a final chess piece falls into place.]
Échec et mat.
[And amidst the sound of cheering, the feed ends.]
[OOC: The name of the game is Genre Switch! So Rudy's been switched into a stereotypical shounen series in which all problems are solved with games of EXTREME POWER RANGERS TENNIS CHESS. Which is exactly what Rudy's doing at the moment, apparently. Blue, pink, and green are all NPC spectators; standard font is Rudy.
Anyone interested in joining in on the shenanigans, feel free to ping me over
