Disclaimer: No profit. No sale. Only for fun & amusement. Green Lantern and stories belong to DC and Geoff Johns and the team behind the comics.

Note: The story will be following a similar order as the New 52 GL comics. I'm not sure exactly where this will go. Also, I'm  new at writing fanfics; I've always been just a reader. :) In addition, Green Lantern is also a new fandom for me. I've read a handful of the comics, but I'm not really in the know of all- things Green Lantern. So, even though the story will have imaginary interactions between the characters, for what is the point of a fanfiction ;),  if you do see any problems as to how i'm describing something etc give me a sign. Also, please don't hesitate to comment on the structure/ grammar. I will totally NOT get offended. I majored in English, but I tend not to see my mistakes when it comes to spelling. Even though this is for fun, at the same time however, I want to get better at the narrative form of writing.

Chapter 1

Thunder erupted outside of the restaurant where Hal Jordan was now standing. He looked up at the cloudy sky, which was at the moment empty of the stars he knew were there, and could picture among them the Guardians sitting on their high thrones. If they remembered how to laugh, they would be laughing at him now.

He was by far no one but a pathetic man who did not ask his best friend, and former girl, to be intimate with again, but had invited Carol tonight to ask  if she could co-sign for him because his credit was fucked.

He was a mess.

Droplets fell on his tired face. He did not look in the mirror for months, but even Carol had noticed he didn’t look his usual best. In the past, there was almost no girl who wouldn't gaze in his direction. Now, his hair was wild, un-brushed, unwashed, tickling his ears and the back of his collar, and he had deep circles under his light brown eyes. He didn’t want to know how his breathe smelled or when was the last time he took a shower. He did feel real bad now that he had let Carol  see him like this today. Even if they have known each other forever, it wasn’t what he would usually do. His wardrobe wasn’t doing well either. He had little clothes after he had joined the Corp and stayed in his Green Lantern suit for months at a time.

He sighted, and stopped walking. He did not know what to think anymore. He looked at his finger, where his ring had been. There was a slight mark, a tan line. He had worn the ring for a long time.  He believed that even Superman had commented on the fact that he had worn it for too long. What had he said? Hal couldn’t remember.

He lowered his eyes towards the ground, and fumbled for a lighter and a cigarette from his pocket.  He never had taken up smoking before, but he figured things would not be like before. Before, he was an inter-galactic police force, a hero, a warrior, he was a Green Lantern. Bringing the cigarette to his parted lips he inhaled, and slowly exhaled, paying careful attention not to look up at the sky again. If he had the ring now, he would be out there, and not here, having been left by Carol to stand in the rain. And, he did not even have money right now for a taxi.

After losing his ring he actually took the time to think about what he had done wrong to be kicked out like that from the Corp. Like a boy being ignored or unloved by his parents, he wanted to go back and prove to the guardians that he was good, that he didn’t mean it, and that he wanted to be forgiven.  But, he could not say what made them so angry with him. He had only wanted to do what was right.

Hal knew he had always done things on a whim, on pure instinct, but usually his actions were appraised later or at least if he screwed up real bad, he was forgiven.  He wondered now if Carol would forgive him. But, if anyone could, the guardians would not.  The guardians of the universe did not hold emotion in high regard and he knew that.

He had barely any time to feel the satisfaction, relief, and the happiness of winning that fight against the deranged guardian.  He hoped to celebrate the victory with the other Green Lanterns, maybe even Sinestro, who of all people or aliens, had helped in the fight, even though he also wanted to
rip that ring from Sinestro’s finger.  But, before he could say anything, the guardians had spoken.

In the blur of what had happened next the only clear image Hal happened to really see was.. Sinestro.

The stern, elf-like, alien had looked in his direction, and Hal did not see anger, disappointment, or hate within those golden eyes.  Sinestro’s eyes soften in their appearance and he had looked at him genuinely surprised.

And suddenly, he had felt dizzy and disoriented, and was on Earth again. He had stood in his regular clothes, and it had been dark, cold and quiet.
Just like today.

He smiled, as things no longer made much sense. He almost laughed at the idea that he had still this image of his former teacher looking surprised, as he was sent home.

Just a few days ago he thought he could do this again. He would go back and start his regular life again because during difficult times, when he just was tired, although he would not admit it to anyone, he wished to be home again. To just fly planes, hopefully make a career out of it, and well work things out with Carol. He hoped he could. He always thought he could do everything. He cursed under his breath, and started walking in the direction that Carol drove away.

The rain started to pour heavily around him, as he reached the entrance to the apartment.  As he walked inside and went up stairs into the hallway, he neared the door to his apartment and noticed the boxes by the door, and the note on it.

“Fuck..”  He cursed.  That’s the last thing he needed was a ….

“Having trouble Jordon?”

Hal almost jumped out of his skin, his heart rate increased so suddenly that he thought he was going to need to lean into the door frame for support.

That voice.  It couldn’t be!

Hal reddened out of surprise or embarrassment; he wasn’t sure which one first.  It was obvious before he turned completely around that it was fucking Sinestro.

When he turned around, Sinestro was looking at him calmly as if they have just seen each other the other day. But, in fact it had been some time ago, since they have last seen each other. Hal looked automatically at Sinestro’s suit and suddenly became real angry.

“What do you want? And, take off that ring, you have no right wearing it.”

Sinestro did not even stir at the remark, but was watching Hal with a blank stare. Hal thought that at least  two minutes past before the other did anything.

“You are not being very hospitable, Jordan.”  Sinestro said finally.

The long hair went into Hal's eyes as he turned slightly from Sinestro's gaze. He wanted to leave, to run somewhere. This was the worst time possible to confront his enemy.  But, he dared not to.

“Whatever you are here for, my answer is going to be no. .”  He said stiffly, not looking at Sinestro.

“No? You don't sound very convincing I'm afraid.”  He said and floated closer to Hal, so that the younger Lantern was a hands reach away from him.

“Because I had a long day; now, I was in the middle of….”

“Being kicked out from your quarters?”

Hal looked at Sinestro with surprise.

“How..”

“I have not come here to fight, Jordan. As it seems that you no longer have a place to stay, not even on your beloved Earth, perhaps this will be easier than I thought.”

Hal suddenly moved towards Sinestro, so that his face was only a few inches away from the alien.

“You came here to insult me then?!”

Sinestro did not move back but held Hal's intensive gaze. His eyes like emeralds shined lightly in the dark hallway.

“I came here for your help.”
