Gift Exchanges
This year Daniel and I were at two parties where there were gift exchanges. One was with friends and one was with the youth at church. We had done the same thing with both groups last year - everyone draws a number, when your number was drawn you either opened a gift or stole a gift that had already been opened. It took forever. This year both groups opted to do something different. At youth, we just picked a present and opened it and that's what we got. At the other party someone read a story and every time he said "right" we passed the gifts to the right and every time he said "left" we passed them left. Whichever gift you were left with you opened and it was yours.
It was actually really nice not to do the whole stealing thing at all, and I found it curious that both groups decided against it the same year since that's pretty much how every gift exchange I've ever been to has gone.
