A Year in Review...

Dec 24, 2007 11:53

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Sing Karaoke at a gay bar. It was a good time.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I definitely joined a gym this year and lost weight. I think I did a fairly good job of it. I think I will try to continue in the same direction next year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My good friend from high school and former roommate, Katy, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Cordell. Also, my friend Tammy has a new niece that was born on Thanksgiving... very cute!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My mom's cousin died and was burried wearing a prayer bracelet that I made. My mom gave her the bracelet when another relative died. We were told that it meant a lot to her and gave her comfort during her last days of her life. It brings me joy to know that it meant so much to her.

5. What countries did you visit?
none... mostly because my parents no longer feel it necessary to take me with them to England, etc. There are some parts of growing up that just suck.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A date.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
-In January I went to a Worship Symposium and met a great man named Doug Gay. Doug and I were feeling stiffled by the pomp and circumstance at the symposium so we went out for a few pints... we had a blast! Doug is one person that I hope I am always in touch with.
-In February I was at another conference drinking with pastors and the guest speaker got me totally trashed! I love drinking with clergy.
-I remember getting burglarized this year, that sucked... my computer was stolen as well as several other sentimental items.
-June 29th and November 24th. Both of my best-friends were married this year... a reminder of both my lonliness and my gratitude for such great friends.
-At a Session meeting on October 4th I was yelled at by my peers in the church. I later resolved to leave my childhood church and become an adult in a new community of faith.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I was accepted into a spiritual direction program at San Francisco Theological Seminary. I will be there for classes in January. I hope to attend the same school for seminary next fall.
I also made the big step of finally finding a faith community that is more in line with what I truly believe.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Finances. It sucks to work for so little money.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not particularly, although I think I'm allergic to the building I work in. I think there is a lot of dust in the building. My sinuses dry out every time I step in the building and I start sneezing and blowing my nose a lot. Then I leave work and feel better.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A microwave and blender which were both returned after the wedding. ;-)
My new table... I LOVE my table!!!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Will Kool- he's quickly becoming one of my favorite people.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
There are several, but here are a few... For one- the President. Two- David Hawkins who shot several people at Westroads Mall in Omaha before killing himself. My friend Ming for smoking pot again and failing his classes. Andrew, for being a jackass and breaking someone's heart.

14. Where did most of your money go?
I'd have to say food and beer. Oh, and my credit card payments. Yikes! Those things really add up.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Weddings; and my table.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher, it was used for Amber and Lada's wedding video.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier.
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner, I've been working out.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer, definitely poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Travelling; especially to visit other schools and seminaries.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eating nachos.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my family. This will be my first Christmas without my brother being present. He will be with his girlfriend's family. I am going to be sad.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Maybe, but I'm not really sure. It get's complicated.

23. How many one-night stands?
Don't recall.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
I have Tin Man on DVR and looking forward to watching it on Christmas with my sister.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't think so. I'm really trying to work on healing some of my broken relationships... at least from my side.

26. What was the best book you read?
Alternative Worship by Doug Gay (a friend of mine who is a Minister in the Church of Scotland), he has a great mind.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Ingemansen brothers.

28. What did you want and then get?
My table, and a promotion at work.

29. What did you want and not get?
Stability.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Pan's Labyrinth.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 23 and don't really remember what I did on my birthday.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Someone to spend more time with.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Hampton Inn uniform.

34. What kept you sane?
Personal down-time to think things over and time with God (mostly singing Gospel music in my car).

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Not really sure. I stayed away from T/V as much as possible this year, although I really enjoyed Grey's Anatomy this season.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Universal health care. It sucks being a young adult and trying to find health insurance.

37. Who did you miss?
My friends from college, especially Zach. Just about everyone has moved away. I'm leaving next year so I'll be even further removed from most of my college friends.

38. Who was/were the best new person(s) you met?
Probably Ming, Stephen, and Jason.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Becoming more comfortable with who you are is difficult, but it leads to greater freedom... the hard part is still ahead.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Victory" by Yolanda Adams

I've got, got the victory
I've got the sweet sweet victory in Jesus.
Yes I do
He's our mighty conquerer.
In him I will trust all my battles he'll fight.
I've got, got the victory
I've got the sweet sweet victory in Jesus.
For me He died but He rose on the third day.
Thats why I have true victory everyday.

Truly I've been through the storm and rain.
I know every thing about heartache and pain.
But God carried me through it all without His protection I'll surely fall.
Ive been broke without a dime to my name.
But all my bills got paid because I called on Jesus name.
You can't tell me that God isn't real 'cause I've got the victory and that why I'm still here.

I'm not worried about material things I don't have.
I'm just blessed cause I know that my Savior's there.
Because I know that my blessing is on the way
I can't see it right now but I stand by faith.
I've fought many, many battles in His name.
I've held up the blood-stained banner and proclaimed.
That Jesus is the truth to the light.
Believe me when I say he will make it right.
