There is the Museum of Death On magazine Street. I used to hang out on Decatur street a lot when I lived there. There are a few cool bars on that street. The Hideout, Mollys etc. I used to work at Gargoyles clothing, which is right next to the hideout, they have some cool stuff. There are also some haunted tours that you'll see flyers up for. If you like Mexican food you HAVE to go to Juan's Flyin Burrito on Magazine Street. That place is SOOOO good and the atmosphere rocks. I absolutely dispised Bourbon Street but I did live there so I guess that comes with the territory. I used to work at Big Daddy's on Bourbon too, it's a strip club that USED to be known by a lot of the locals as "The punk rock strip club" but I think it's under new ownership and they got rid of all the hot tattooed/pierced ladys. If you want something pierced you can go see my ex-roomie/best friend at Rings Of Desire on Decatur street. Oh if anyone comes up to you saying "I bet you 5 dollars I know where you got your shoes!" Either tell them that you

A few suggestions...shigellaJune 9 2004, 09:26:26 UTC
You should check out the Voodoo Museum. It's small but very informative, with fun exhibits and "real" voodoo items. The guy who runs it is a crazy wild-animal guru who loves snakes and exotic spiders.
There's also a bar called Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar, the oldest bar in America. It has electricity piped in through extension cords from outside and is very rustic and historically interesting.
They have nightly ghost/historical tours that are fun too if you don't mind walking. The ghost tour has a bit of history tossed in with supernatural legend and you get to see important landmarks and hear scary details about the past.
Have a great time! I went to New Orleans for my honeymoon and we had the best time. My only suggestion; plan evening events and try to take advantage of afternoon naps to beat the heat.
i was just there last week. i found a place with a/c and wireless so that's pretty much where i stayed (and by the pool). new orleans wasn't really my thing. it smells like garbage and oysters in the french quarter and the bars were all kind of gross i thought. ... but that's coming from somebody who doesn't drink. reguardless, the riverwalk and the buildings in the french quarter were cool. oh, and the Howlin' Wolf tavern/bar had some good shows. i'm sure by just wandering around you will stumble apon good food. it's kind of everywhere. have fun =)

i hit up a whole bunch of places while i was there, but it was such a whirlwind trip that i forget the names of the other bars/restaurants.
the french quarter was disgusting. then again, it was st. patty's day, so it was pretty much a zoo (& it smelled like vomit all down bourban st.)
