Character Information
Name: Isabel Alison Sawyer (also called Izzy)
LJ Username:
precociousizzyHouse: Grrrrrryffindor, like whoa.
Year: Firstie
Age: 11
Birthdate: February 18
Zodiac Sign / Description: Aquarius on the cusp of Pisces
Aquarius is the eleventh house of the Zodiac and rules the circulatory system, shins, and ankles. Positive traits include brilliance, innovation, individuality, openness, social consciousness, inventiveness, practical skill, and self assertion; negative traits are eccentricity, lack of attachment to people and the "real world," over-intellectualizing of the emotions, a crotchety temper, rigidity, intellectual arrogance, and stubbornness.
Gryffindor Aquarians are the social activists and loons of their House. They'll picket for House Elf Liberation. They'll wear their robes inside out because they spent all night reading, not pay attention to how they dressed the next day, and not care if their rumpled appearance is pointed out to them. They are intellectual rebels and will loudly defend their opinions, even if doing so makes enemies. They are apt to question authority. "Even Merlin was wrong, some of the time," they'll say, shrugging. While not particularly good at dealing with crisis situations (they stress out easily) they do tend to have enough foresight to see the situations coming, and prevent them from happening in the first place. They can be flamboyantly talented, but are less interested in using their talent to "make it big" than in using it to make a better life for themselves or other people. Because Gryffindor tends to be a flamboyant house, these oddballs (they are always odd) tend to stick out for being unusual.
Bloodline: Muggleborn
Heritage: English
Mother: Marilla Alcott Sawyer Pitt, 38, Freelance Photographer & 100% Muggle.
Mari was born in a small town in Connecicut where she lived until she was 13. AT that time, her father got a job overseas and the family moved to London where she has lived ever since. She worked as a barmaid while she was a Uni student and it was during this time she met and had a tumultuous affair with Richard Pitt. The affair yielded a son - Jeremy - who Richard convinced her to give up and let him raise. Lacking the resources to raise a child on her own, she caved under his pressure and agreed to the arrangement and didn't see either of them until just recently when she ran into Richard at Hogwarts.
The Christmas after Jeremy was born (a few months after his birth), Mari unwisely got drunk at a Christmas party and ended up sleeping with Anthony Sawyer (who was not above taking advantage of a drunken classmate nice guy, eh?). It was unplanned and she was unprepared and as a result of her bad judgement there, she ended up pregnant again. Under pressure from both of their families, she and Tony were married. That child is Izzy's older brother Bryant. She has three other children from Tony - 15 year old Sammy, 11 year old Isabelle(aka Izzy), and 8 year old Kenny.
For her part, she did love Tony at first, but Tony was too in love with himself and his career to ever truly return the sentiment. She's long ago fell out of love with him, but she stayed for her children, to give them a better life. Just over a year ago, Tony passed away after storming off during an argument, something Mari still has some guilt from. Richard was very much there for her and her children, and she found herself quickly falling for the man all over again and the two were remarried this past Christmas.
Father: Tony Sawyer, deceased, former newspaper tycoon
Tony was the stereotypical rich asshole. When he saw something he wanted, he just took it and that included Bryant's mother. While he never loved her in the truer sense of the word, he was deeply infatuated with her. He saw his chance when she got drunk at a holiday party they were both attending and he seduced her. When the tryst resulted in a child, he quickly proposed, pleased that he had not only a way to tie her to him, but also an heir to his successful newspaper business.
Just over a year ago, Tony passed away, leaving his entire business to his son Bryant. His hope always was that his son would get over this whole stupid delusion that he was magical and come to work for the family business. Leaving it to him in his will was partly his way of ensuring he had little choice in the matter.
Guardian: Richard Pitt, along with Mari, 42, Department of Mysteries.
During his mid-twenties, Richard and some friends stopped at a Muggle pub for Merlin knows what reason. (It had seemed like a good idea at the time) He met and began an affair with one of the waitresses there, which resulted in his first son, Jeremy. Richard was ashamed at having been with a Muggle and he didn't want the world at large to know, so he manipulated her into giving up the child. Mari was a college student with little to no money and he found it easy to charm her into believing he would give Jeremy a far better home than she could, using the wizarding world to hide from her once he'd gotten his way.
Sometime after all of this, he met and married his first wife, though it was a marriage of convenience for their families and not one of love. He's only ever touched his wife to produce their two children or when they've been drunk.
Nevertheless, everything went according to plan - Jeremy wanted for nothing and no one knew his true parentage - until Richard ran into Mari at at King's Cross as they were both picking up their children from the Hogwarts Express. After a heated exchange that resulted in him being slapped, they spoke a bit more civilly and Richard realised that not only had he been wrong to keep her from their son, but that he still had feelings for her after all these years. Since then, he began to actively pursue a rekindling of their prior relationship, even though they were both married.
When Mari's husband died, Richard all but moved in to be there for her and her children -until she forced him to leave a couple of weeks after most of her brood had gone back to Hogwarts. He went back home, but promptly asked his wife for a divorce (in which she got custody of their two boys), realising that now that he has Mari in his life again, a loveless marriage just isn't enough for him anymore.
Less than a year later, he and Mari were married and Richard has never been happier. Izzy is THRILLED, because even though she loved her father, she ADORES both Jeremy and Richard.
Siblings:
Jeremy Pitt, 18, 7th Year Slytherin (half-sibling)
Bryant Sawyer, 17, 7th Year Hufflepuff
Samuel Sawyer, 15, student/non-magical
Kenny Sawyer, 8, student/non-magical so far
(who I totes was not planning on offering to kill off just so I could say "you killed Kenny, you bastards!)
Izzy ADORED her family, especially her older siblings. Mainly because they spoil her ROTTEN, but, hey.
Personal History:
Izzy was born the third of four children to Anthony and Marilla Sawyer near Muggle London. Her older brother Bryant is a seventh year Hufflepuff at Hogwarts and her other two brothers (Sam, 15 and Kenny, 8) both attend Muggle schools. Izzy is a precocious child and being the only girl has made her a bit "spoiled," though for the most part she is a good kid. During the summer between about a year and a half ago year he has learned that she has yet another brother - seventh year Slytherin Jeremy Pitt - who she has quickly come to adore. Partially because he is basically wrapped around her little finger, but whatever works, eh? ;) She gets on well for the most part with her classmates, though she is anxious to try out some of the hexes Jeremy is teaching her on the few people she doesn't really like.
At Christmas just over a year ago, Izzy's father passed away. He left the house for the office after an argument over the broom Jeremy had gotten Izzy for Christmas and he never game back. Izzy feels guilty to this day, thinking that it wouldn't have ever happened if they hadn't fought, but she has refused to cry in front of anyone, save breaking down a little once when Jeremy came up to check on her.
Izzy thinks quidditch is brilliant and is disappointed that she is not allowed a broom of her own at school to practice with so she can try out for a house team next year. She is absolutely ecstatic that Jeremy has been teaching her to fly and flying class is her absolute favorite at Hogwarts. Though that might be largely because she gets to be outside during it doing something, rather than stuck in a stuffy classroom reading.
Izzy isn't a bad student, but she doesn't like to study. She does best at practical lessons (so long as it's something that comes naturally for her). She'd probably do a lot better academically if she actually had the drive and focus to pay attention in class and do the homework.
Personality:
Izzy is a precocious child. She's bold and impestuous. She says what she thinks with complete candor, often not realizing that it might not be appropriate and often with hilarious results, especially when adults are involved. She's very outgoing an makes friends easily. Izzy's family is important to her and she would do anything for them, though she's definitely not afraid to pout a little to get her way, especially when it comes to her big brothers, who she seems to have wrapped around her little finger.
Sometimes her penchant for sass can get her into a bit of trouble, but overall she's a good kid. She doesn't work terribly hard at anything that doesn't interest her, but except for a couple of classes that she is failing, she is doing pretty okay in school. Well enough to satisfy HER, anyway.
Izzy is a very outgoing child. She's very bright and can be attentive when something interests her. She loves active things like sports and pulling pranks and has a difficult time sitting still or quiet for very long. I fully expect her to get expelled for slipping dungbombs into Umbridge's office.
Izzy is not shy in the least. She'll walk up to anyone and say hello, ask the most embarassing questions wihout shame and expect an equally frank response. And she's pretty much adorable enough to usually get away with it.
Naivety often comes with being young and Izzy definitely has that level of innocence. She doesn't get why some of the things she says are inappropriate or embarassing, because she really is asking out of an innocent curiosity. One might think her curiosity would have placed her in Ravenclaw, but it's the sort of natural curiosity that most children have, not the more Ravenclaw variety. She's far too impetuous to be placed anywhere BUT Gryffindor. Izzy is the type to hex first and ask questions... well, never, actually.
Physical Description: Small height and build for her age, big brown eyes and long brown hair that is naturally curly.
Izzy's clothing is often rumbled and dirty and she often wears a mischievous grin. Trouble might as well be her middle name, because the more dangerous or against the rules something is, the more she wants to do it. And she doesn't at all mind getting mussed up in the process.
Preferred Body Model: Mackenzie Rosman
Hobbies and talents:
Flying/Quidditch - Izzy is a natural flier. As a first year, she hasn't been flying long, of course, but she loves it and seems to have a natural skill for it. She's determined to find her way onto the Gryff team, even if she has to use an aging potion to get into the tryouts. (obviously, she will FAIL, but still)
Sports - Izzy is really kind of a tomboy. She adores sports of all kinds. Really, she enjoys any kind of physical activity. Izzy is a child who likes to be always moving or doing something.
Weaknesses:
Izzy is naive and impetuous, reckless and sometimes insensitive. She has a tremendous fear of spiders and her habit of speaking without thinking probably gets her into trouble more often than not. She also has a very short attention span, especially for things that don't interest her. And thanks to three adoring older brothers, she is quite spoiled.
She's mostly fearless in a bad way, because being told something is dangerous only makes her want to do it more. She's not afraid, too, to hex or threaten people who are much larger than her. Especially since she has two older brothers at school and she'll definitely play the "my brothers can kill you" card.
Did I mention spoiled rotten? Izzy is used to getting her way and if she doesn't, it's tantrum city. She's very bossy and she's used to people doing or letting her do whatever she wants. Tell her no, and it's definitely not a pretty site, because she will whine and pout and cry until she gets what she wants.
She's also pretty messy. Izzy's side of the room often looks like a tornado has hit it. I'm sure it drives her roommates CRAZY.
Best subjects: Flying, Charms, DADA
Worst subjects: History of Magic, Astronomy, Herbology, anything that means she has to SIT STILL or READ THINGS.
Broom: She has a Nimbus that she keeps at home since first years aren't allowed brooms. It was a gift from her oldest brother last Christmas and she HATES that she can't have it at school.
Wand:10 inch ash with a dragon heartstring core
The Ash was a sacred chieftain tree, said to "court the flash" as it was prone to lightning strike. Its wood was thought to be enchanted and was used for Druidic wands and spears. Ash people are quick witted, spontaneous and gregarious. They have a lively curiosity and are intellgent, persuasive speakers, enthusiastic, inquisitve and communicative. They love discussing new ideas and projects.
Dragon Heartstring wands are good for hexing. (Izzy: SCORE!)
List of classes for current year:
Astronomy, Charms, DADA, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Flying
Magical Stuffs
Patronus (for fifth years and older):
Do you think your character is capable of successfully employing a Cruiciatus Curse? Why or why not?
Nope. She's full of mischief, but she's really pure at heart and could never wish that kind of pain on anyone seriously.
Describe how your character would react, in the form of a sample RP, if faced with a Dementor.
Alone.
Izzy had never really felt that before. Having so many brothers, she was used to that feeling of security, of knowing that Bryant and Jeremy especially would protect her with their lives.
But they weren't here now and Izzy didn't have the first clue how to fight this thing.
So even though it went against everything in her very nature, Izzy turned and ran as fast as her little legs could carry her.
Alignment:
Dumbledore's girl, fo'shizzle. She'll want in on the DA when she's old enough.
Requests: She's not old enough for the DA or Quidditch, so nothing at this time.
