bias

this week i've been thinking about various ideas, trying to work out which i want to expand on.

been thing about the notion of 'bias' - there was an article about bias in farrago a while ago, possibly in the first issue. the author gave examples of left-wing bias in teaching in the university and asserted that they couldn't find any right-wing bias. i think it is both interesting and frustrating that people still want 'unbiased teaching', as though the status quo was both moderate and neutral. i don't want unbiased teaching, i don't actually think it exists. "Facts" are a way of understanding the world which has entered society's consciousness sufficiently enough that they are rarely questioned. i've come across (what i perceive as) left- and right-wing bias in my classes and i often resent the right-wing bias, not because it's bias but because i don't agree with it and i'm not quick enough to respond.
