Two Recent Whuppings

Yesterday, I tried running after work, and it wasn't so terrible. It was cold, and for a while I ran with my sleeves over my hand, depicted:

The lake was frozen and the ice covered in snow. For a few hundred feet out, you could mistake it for a snowy plain where the city just stopped.

Once I got warmed up, it was perfect: my new longest run. My lungs choked on some cold air, but my body felt like it was ready to run miles past the point where my watch said quit. I told Sara it was another run where I felt like I brushed the membrane between myself and my potential.

Otherwise, I've been trying to find a balance between producing finished work and allowing the aimless lines on a page that sometimes point toward finished work. I doodle whirls and shapes, trying to recapture a kind of total relaxed freedom of play and I get to making sound effects out loud as I draw.

Anyway, this morning I broke out the Crayola markers and filled a few sheets with nonsense. This is one of them:

But it is hard work for me to get to that point, and there's a deep-set mental tiredness afterward. I've been whupped all day.

Running and doodling.
