Oscar Night and Dishes

Feb 22, 2009 22:06

My nose cleared up like magic. I woke up early this morning and just kept revising this idea for a piece I have about writing better criticism on the Internet and also Ulysses and also music. This revising is basically just me overextending metaphors and getting angry that those aren't quite right and then remembering that it's the Internet so why bother anyway?

We watched The Wrestler today. Of all the nominees for anything we've seen so far, I think it's the one closest to my personal groove. The second closest was probably Slumdog Millionaire. I'm saying if someone can make a sad-because-the-details-are-so-true movie about lower middle class scrabbling that isn't afraid to suddenly lean on colorful, garish melodrama and low pop culture jetsam, if someone can make this, I will happily pay 10 dollars to see it on opening night.

Tonight we made turkey meatloaf and mashed new potatoes. The Oscars are on, but I got bored when the musical came back and did all the world's dishes while listening to Flying Lotus' Los Angeles. I've been surprised by a sudden tired sadness, but it's back to work tomorrow so I don't want to go to sleep.
