I've got this idea that like one's appetite or sleep schedule, one's creative impulses get scheduled to arrive at a certain time. When Dog and Cat ran in the newspaper for all those ages, I hit my stride a few hours before the very last minute the strip was due. When I first did those comics, I'd sit there for hours upon hours of a Sunday and crank out a week's worth at once. When that's habitual, it's easier than it sounds. My habit, however, has become for me to produce my strips in the last hour before the deadline of the Grind, living constantly on the edge of getting knocked out by the slightest misstep. Also, I stayed up pretty late.
Anyway, I'm trying to change my comics schedule, and it's not easy. Today was like pulling teeth, because I'm already feeling a drought creatively. Here's my strip, a couple hours early. I'll keep at it.
