There’s a classic question asked at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Many happy geeks have debated over what- exactly- does that final shot of Ark mingled amongst thousands of crates indicate. I count myself amongst them.
The simple answer is that the Ark is again ‘lost’ but this time inside Washington bureaucracy. Or, maybe, these ‘top men’ are smart to understand that the power the Ark represents is not made for mortal men and are therefore intentionally making it disappear? Was that whole warehouse put together for the sake of concealing the Ark? Are all of the crates filled with duplicate Arks, or are they stuffed with random files and other junk? In tribute to the beginning of the movie are they just filled with sand of an approximately equal weight? Is possible that each crate is filled with a different mystical historic wonder that the US government keeps under lock an key?
I now realize that all of these questions are meaningless. The only question that matters is: Who had to load and stack those crates, and where do they live so I can send them a sympathy card?
After taking 2.25 tons of Numbers League off a truck, putting it into temporary storage, loading it into a van, and then moving them into my basement (four separate trips)… I feel their pain.
Many thanks to Kevin and Jason. It would not have gotten done without them.
