of droughts and flooding rains

Apparently I updated on Sunday but completely forgot I did because I came to this post thinking "Man, I haven't posted in ages!* I should get on that." But nope, updated two days ago. I think I left my brain at work. On to other things that are much more important.

* for me.

I have a lot of international people on my flist and I have no idea how many of you have heard about the Queensland Floods but an area the size of Germany and France combined is affected.

Towns have been cut off from one another, and many cannot communicate because the water has damaged telephone and power lines. Cars are being swept away with people still inside. An unexpected wave of water eight metres surged through Toowoomba sweeping away anyone in the street. Wivenhoe Dam is rapidly releasing water to compete with the flows of flood waters.

The Brisbane River broke it's banks today, leading to evacuations in some inner suburbs of Brisbane and the CBD itself in preparation. Brisbane has a population of 2 million. Employees are being sent home as public transport is either not running or experiencing delays.

The entire state is a disaster zone and rain is expected as far as the forecast is currently predicting.

These floods have resulted in the deaths of 22 people and there are many people missing because they have been swept away or can't make contact. So far $32mil have been raised for relief, but with a damage bill that has exceeded the millions and is now potentially $10 billion. The government is providing disaster aide to those affected and corporations, celebrities and are providing all the help they can.

Details on how to donate to the flood relief appeal can be found on the Queensland Government website.

The ABC have a dedicated news page for the floods, providing updates and the #qldfloods hash tag is being put to good use spreading information.

Please spread the word further. The entire country is slowly becoming effected because the rivers are full and can't move fast enough. Friends and family, stay safe and evacuate if you need to. ♥

i have no tag for this, weather
