Last night Richard Flanagan was on the 7:30 Report being interviewed about his new novel, The Unknown Terrorist, and Kerry O'Brien read an extract from it. It was hilariously awful, the kind of political writing which makes its political points in the most obvious and banal way possible. You know, John Howard and the War on Terror have done Terrible, Awful Things to Our Society, only even worse than that paraphrase.
He also pronounced 'malaise' with a silent 's'.
I haven't read any of his books, but now I felt bad for having bought a copy of Gould's Book of Fish for my brother-in-law a couple of years back.
