Long weekends are the BEST!
Went to my very first big day out on friday (BDO is a massive annual aussie/NZ music festival that attracts both local and international acts). I've always avoided it simply due to the cost, but thought that it was worth doing just once.
MY LORD was it hot. 41 degrees celcius in West Sydney. Every inch of shade was taken, with a 10 minute wait in line for water. I ended up buying one of those tacky spray bottles that have a fan on them. awesome, seriously AWESOME. and frozen cocktails....uuugghh like heaven in a cup on a hot day.
We braved the heat to see a couple of bands but it was too rediculously hot to really get into it.
At one point we walked into a sectioned off area dedicated to what seemed like a mexican festival of the dead type theme. We walk over to a mini-amphitheatre and there is this 60+ year old guy dressed in a matching tracksuit outfit drunkenly rambling to the tune played by the band and 2 drag queens dressed in polkadot pants and bright pink bob-cut wigs dancing around him. To top it off, he suddenly stops singing and says to someone in the crowd "hey pretty lady". I couldn't tell if he was asian or latin? I think I was focusing on the drag queens too much, haha!
Oh, and I must have missed the fashion memo.... BDO is 15+years & every second chick was wearing small denim cut-offs with a leotard underneath and those goddess sandles that are all the rage at the moment. How uncool did I feel? The old 25 year old wearing a tshirt, hat, shorts and comfy shoes. When did leotards even strike back? Didn't we learn this lesson 10 years ago? The worst part was that by the end of the day, they actually started almost looking good.
In order of appearance, we ended up seeing: kisschasy, kasabian, eskimo joe, dizee rascal, lily allen, powderfinger, muse.
Good times! The rest of the weekend was all about being lazy. Nothing great achieved, but I sure do feel good for it.
