Merlin and Freya! Spoil me since I haven't seen her in the series yet.

When Merlin first met Freya back in Camelot, it was "girl with magic in a cage" - there was no way he could not help her. It could just as easily have been him, so it hit too close to home, plus he's not the type to just sit back and watch bad things happen if he can do something about it. And it was inevitable that he would fall in love with her. Normally he has to protect/save people behind the scenes and no one ever knows about it. But with Freya he got to be the hero. More importantly, he was just able to be himself, and he felt understood, and that was really nice

She was in her cursed/beast form and had killed people and he was put in a really bad situation, though he didn't know anything that had happened between her and Merlin.
