Adventures in Mumbai

Last Friday, my colleague and I sneaked out a bit early from work to catch up on some talks, a relaxed lunch and a visit to the client. We had an hour to kill, so we decided to visit Colaba Causeway and indulge what we are best at...shopping!

While we were there, I managed to catch glimpse of the places I have been wanting to go...Leopold Cafe, Piccadilly's, Cafe Mondegar. I first read about Leopold cafe in the book Shantaram, and immediately I knew that it was a place that I wanted to visit. I pictured it to be a place that overlooked the Gateway Of India, and chairs in the open, where people relaxed while sipping their mug of chilled beer. I was heart broken when I saw the place. It could easily be missed and had it not been for bright yellow colured logo Leopold stiched on every waiter's shirt, I may have missed the place altogether. I made up my mind to visit the place on the weekend, as we were getting late for the client meet.

The weekend saw J and I, walking up and down Colaba Causeway and a lunch at Leopold. A chance encounter with the manager gave me the information that the author of Shantaram, Gregory David Roberts was visiting the place the next day. Torn between work and the encounter, I decided that it would not really harm scooting out of the office a couple of hours early, for I was not sure if I would ever get the chance to meet the author again.

And finally I did get to meet the guy. He is just awesome, I got about minutes to spend with him and we talked about the book and his future projects. I am in total awe of that guy. And I got my copy of the book signed by him and asked him if I could take a pic with him. Here is the pic. My week was made.

And in other news, I screwed up two potential offers that were thrown at me. The job entailed reloacting ti Bangalore. Well, the job was not what I wanted, but nevertheless I could have used it as a stop gap offer till I got the job that I was looking at. Such is life.
