swings and stuff

I'm mildly annoyed the freecycle brighton mailing list. They've decided to ban people offering car seats and helmets. Whilst I understand that it is not recommended to use a secondhand car seat unless you are 100% sure of the origins, it pisses me off that the list moderators can decide for us what we can and cannot recycle.

Also annoyed at Virgin Credit Cards. They illegally posted charges to my account. A retailer used a credit card number that I gave them in November. In January, I cancelled the card as it was stolen. In March, they posted a charge to my account. Now, I don't object to the charge, what I object to is that its a blatent violation of security to post changes to my account if they're using the wrong credit card number. I mean, for fucks sake, this card was cancelled.
Had a very long discussion with Virgin about this yesterday. Today, they have cancelled all late fees and interest charges. Tonite, I will pay off the remaining balance for abovemntioned charges and cancel immediately. Virgin's customer service is just shit. In fact, I cannot go on and on enough about how much Virgin, as a company, have shit customer service.

I call and say I dispute a charge. The lady says to me, if you have a problem with why the company has charged you, you need to call the company direct. So I say, No. That is your job. She says no, and refuses to accept my dispute. I mean, wtf? So I escalate and give Joe the phone because we have an agreement that when it comes to stuff like this, Joe will always speak. And so he speaks to the manager and gets the same answer. Maybe its because its a Sunday night and people who work on Sundays are dumb. Actually, maybe its because its a call center and people who work in credit card call centers are dumb and unemployable. Somehow, he manages to get through to someone today. I suspect its because he told them we are cancelling the card. They do not want to give us customer service but they will try their hardest to keep getting my money. Bastards.

Speaking of credit cards, I recently opened a card with MBNA to replace the Virgin card that I want to cancel. So I call MBNA last night to activate the card. The system activates it and then tells me to hold while I am transferred to a customer service agent. I get some poor girl on the line who firstly tries to sell me identity theft insurance. So I say no. Then she tries to sell me home insurance. So I say no. So she tries to get me to move a balance on any of my other credit cards over. I say no. So then she tries to get me to take cash out on the card right then and there. So yet again, I say no. Finally, she tries to sell me payment protection insurance, so I say no, and she has the gall to ask me how I plan on paying for the card. I tell her not to worry her pretty little head about these things and say no one last time. I don't have high hopes for this MBNA card. So far, the only credit card I would recommend is our Barclaycard. Thier customer service is fabulous and really, at the end of the day, all credit cards are exactly the same, its the customer service that makes a difference.

Actually, what makes me really sad is that my favorite credit card of all time was my United Airlines mileage card, but because I plan on never flying United again if I can help it, there was no point continuing to use their credit card. My new airlines of choice are KLM and American. I'm mildly bothered by the citibank AA card's annual charge of £60 and KLM only offer a Diner's club card. I mean, diner's, wtf?
