Vuoden 2004 paras albumi?

It's a taboo to mix religious (especially Christian) lyrics into music that's supposed to be credible, right? Well, fuck that, forget about all the lame christian music you've heard (Stryper, anyone?), since David Eugene Edwards (a.k.a . Woven Hand) not only gets away with it, he does it utter perfection. I read a review of this album, where the writer praised it, but gave it a rating 1/5, because of the he felt the lyrics were like "being hit with a Jesus bat". Haha, you fool, there's no Jesus here, not in a major role anyway. But there is the angry god of the Old Testament that will fucking kill you, rip you into pieces and throw fireballs at you if you don't give him the respect he wants.

I'll just quote some of Edwards' lyrics to give you an idea about his God:

"Judgement will not be avoided by your unbelief", "Power glory dominion, Be unto the king", "The world will bow, the knees will be broken for those who don't know how"

And so on...

As for the music, it resembles the previous Woven Hand releases and Edwards' main band's 16 Horsepower's Folklore, being very creepy and atmospheric alternative folk music (some people might call it gothic americana, southern gothic or whatever). Most of the songs are driven by piano & guitar, with all sorts of random instruments and noises thrown into the mix when needed. All in all, this is a VERY dark & beautiful album, and totally enjoyable for non-christians too, provided you can withstand a severe beating from David Eugene Edwards' bible bat.
