14valentines Day 4: Reproductive Rights and Motherhood

One of my most cherished things I inherited from my grandmother was her recipe box. Eventually I want to get most of the various recipes typed up and organized, but here's one of the reciped I enjoy.

Ginger Snaps

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups flour

That looks a lot like the recipe I use for soft, chewy ginger cookies. My recipe has cloves in it as well... DEFINITELY use butter rather than shortening. If you want a recipe that's a little less sweet and more of the crunchy, tangy gingersnaps that loved to be dipped in coffee or tea, I've got a great recipe (it can also be used for gingerbread houses!).
