Okay, I think I know where Richard came from, and why he's apparently older than dirt. First, let's review the evidence, and draw a few comparisons:

- Knows what the f*^& is going on despite supernatural circumstances
- Wears Guy-Liner
- Richard Alpert
- Leader
- Knows what the f*^& is going on despite supernatural circumstances
- Wears Guy-Liner
Coincidence? I think not. Sparrow is the captain of the Black Pearl after all, so that must make Alpert the long-lost captain of the Black Rock. And seeing as how this ship is found stranded on a mysterious time-traveling island, it's totally plausible.
