So Deus Ex 3 is coming out soon. Which means it's time to step up the video card hunt. Came across this bad boy on a quick Newegg browse.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121418 Radeon HD 6870 chip with 1120 SPUs...Shit I was going to be happy with 700-800, but 1120 for $190? Sold.
With that I'll be able to "upgrade" to Windows 7. This time around I'm just not going to have a speaker system. My current speakers will be used in the media machine project. For my desktop I'll go headsets all the way in an attempt to avoid Windows' audio mixer train wreck. $10 says I'll still have to fuck with the microphone for 4 hours to get it working. But that won't hold me back from playing a single player game.
But it will be nice to finally take advantage of all 8 gigs of memory I have.
omgomgomgomg! Deus Ex 3! It better not suck balls. And if there's a goddamned circle menu in the game, I'm taking a trip to Montreal to bitch slap some peeps.
But hey, since I mentioned the media machine, let's talk a little bit about that. I hollowed out the old radio the other night. No more cast iron record player, no short wave radio, no tuner, no speaker. It's literally just a wooden box with a little bit of cloth and some screws. It's a LOT lighter.
The next step is to get all of the hardware, obviously. I had it priced to something like $230 for everything that I wanted, including a little external DVD drive so I can play and rip DVDs. Still going to need to drop some money on hard drives for space to place all of the ripped DVDs, but I've got a bunch of space to work with for now.
James picked up an awesome hot swap enclosure for like $80. Holds 4 drives and fits in to three 5.25" bays. How awesome is that? When I get the new hard drives for the DVDs, I'd like to get one of those as well and really get my NAS riced out.
And that's about all I have for right now.
