Wow. This small business is using up hard drive space faster than manufacturers can create larger drives. That's actually really impressive.

Until you see how it's being done.

So this server has two 1.5 terabyte drives in it. We're thinking RAID 1. No. They're spanned drives, creating a giant 3 terabyte drive. This is purely to hold data for SQL Server. His actual databases take up ~80 gigs of space (which is fucking impressive for pure data). The backups of those databases, on the other hand, are taking up 1.57 terabytes of space.

This business needs a different backup solution. The one they have in place right now is not valid. This would be a good business to propose external storage to. Instead of two giant drives in a RAID 1, several smaller drives in a more fault tolerant RAID. Like RAID 6. Mmmmm...RAID 6 love...
