We have asked in the FAQ section that all skills pertaining to fixing or escaping the ship be toned down, and as a general rule doors will not open for anyone or anything unless they were faulty in the first place, especially with the locks sealed shut to prevent the atmosphere of the ship from being sucked out into the vacuum and pull of the black hole.

It's more for plot purposes than anything else, as blasting a hole in the door of the escape pod room would destroy everything inside the ship within minutes, and people much sooner. As such, should a door be blasted open, the room connected would be sealed by the computer in seconds to save the rest of the ship and it would learn to take more precaution as a (nearly) sentient ship trying to keep its passengers safe.

However! As the ship will refuse to open the door under any circumstances, you are more than welcome to do that should Rose's magic really be able to blast open a door that way! (And doors require more than just force, as we provided Virgil-mun with a method of opening the weakest door on the ship, and that took several hours with shorting it out and a lightsaber.) But her and anyone in the room with her would be endangered and the computers would learn from this and that method would not work again. But there are several characters on this ship that would be able to get them to safety, and perhaps in the fray, grab a few of the spacesuits as well!

I guess I didn't see it as escaping, since they're not going to leave the vicinity of the ship, but obviously I don't know what the overarching plot is. Sorry about that. I thought that really referred to being able to either move the entire ship, or powers that could zap everyone away somewhere, etc. Rose is nothing a few pounds of explosives couldn't do, though she's going to try to avoid the brute force solution as much as possible, at least at first. (She'd be more likely to pick a small room on the exterior and hack the hull that blow a door, but that's a minor point.)

I was hoping the whole idea could let non-engineering characters help with repairs, since the engineering crew isn't going to talk to non-technical folks. It wouldn't have to be Rose finding anything interesting -- just having her meet people is plenty.

I was basing suits availability on articletwelve's IC comment -- I assumed the player had permission -- she wouldn't be blasting until her party had suits on. I'll try to figure this out when I'm not at work. Sorry to have caused such a clusterfuck.

It's no problem at all (we just didn't really have time to sign on to this account yesterday)! We encourage plots of all sorts and we're here to help players work their ideas into the central plot, after all!

It's great that you came to us with the question so that we could give you the specs on what would happen with what. We may yet do an in-game daily sign-ups to help people coordinate with what's going on starting day 3. It might help us answer questions easier as well with everything situated within one post. Nothing is completely impossible on this ship, as a very specially made bomb would be able to blast through the doors the first time.

There are many spacesuits in the escape pod room, but nowhere near enough for everyone and a few of them damaged to boot. We're going to assume Washington-mun has a plan and will work around that as well!

We do encourage all sorts of things, but are well aware that in-game consequences may not be what the players expect so we like to know things ahead of time in order to warn people in case they don't want their characters injured or dead.

So if they manage to get any suits, and open a door/hull section, what happens, from a character POV? They'll be expecting the door to shut and to be sucked out.

I don't mind injuring her, and she could really use one of her schemes blowing up in her face, from a character development point of view. Death I'd like to avoid at this point, but so does she, and she's foolhardy, but not completely nuts.

If they manage to get a door open, that would only to due to irreparable damage to the door, and they would indeed to sucked out! But that section of the ship will also be sealed off (we'd be more than happy to check that off in the maps section-- this is the reason most hallways have their own section), and the trick would be getting back into the ship-- which, admittedly, will get easier later on, but currently most airlocks leading outside the ship will need techno-savvy people on both sides in order to open.

One thing we do recommend is to have a plan on how to stay near the ship since Pradeda is in the presence of a black hole and it is aiming the thrusters full force away from it in order to stay where it currently is. As such, they may be stuck outside for a few hours longer than they would have thought (or liked), but there would be people inside to talk them back in if they get stuck outside. And the gravity outside can be a little painful at the moment (however, if you want to go outside into space, we do recommend doing it the first few days in-game as it will get more painful the closer we get to the black hole).

Injuries-wise, there may be a bit of a panic of the doors are blown open as everything would be sucked out with them, and debris may scratch or tear some areas of some of the suits, or even give someone a concussion if it hits them in the head with the force of being sucked out into hard vacuum. But if they're already in the suits and prepared for it, there wouldn't be any casualties!

As a minor detail, the spacesuits have audio communications with each other and the ship network, but not visual.

Awesome. OK, I'll put up a log of probalby-not-accomplishing-much on Day 03 so people can strategize ICly, and if they do look like they're going to start something crazy, I'll get back in touch.

I'm guessing the computer would not be persuaded by threats of exploding doors?

(By week 3 or so she might be desperate enough to start blowing holes everywhere, but not yet.)

The computer is currently operating at one of the lowest settings, and thus would not respond to threats until they've already been executed.

(We'd love to plot that out!)

Hmm, that'd be a tricky puzzle! The doors will refuse to open unless they are completely destroyed, in which case the computer will create stricter reinforcements on the next door. And even destroying a door is very, very hard to achieve.

That path is extremely tricky, and we'd recommend using another one!
