That's not TLDR. This is TLDR. wantsababy June 20 2011, 05:43:14 UTC
Rosalie was hungry. A dilemma, because Rosalie didn't like the person (the beast) she became when she fed off of human blood, but only human blood ever satiated her appetite. There were dozens of humans in this house--and indeed, she was convinced that this ship was somebody's house. She could smell the individuals even from this distance, walking back and forth with purpose, or sometimes with confusion or fear. She imagined what the owners of those scents might look like and felt more hungry still. She closed her eyes and swallowed. She drew in breath, though she had stopped requiring air the day she died, and allowed it to cloud her senses. She could distract herself from the hunger. She had done it before ( ... )

Kurt whipped around at the sound of an intake of breath. His eyes widened with alarm. Unthinkingly, he disappeared--a loud clap of blue smoke left behind--and reappeared on the other side of the hall, better cloaked in shadows.

"I'm sorry!" he said instantly.

His first instinct was always to apologize for the way he looked.

"What are you supposed to be?" Rosalie asked, simultaneously backing away.

Yet she didn't look afraid. Fear eluded her, too, now. She was tired, hungry and tired, in a way that superceded all physical sense.

"I don't know."

It was the easiest answer simply because it was the closest to the truth. His birth parents had had the foresight to abandon him along the Alps. Only one woman, the woman who had raised him, ever told him he was human. He didn't know whether he was human or not. Some days, he felt as though he was. Other days...not so much.

"I am Kurt. I'm sorry if I alarmed you."

Separate thread for canteen? dadwasavillain June 21 2011, 03:49:11 UTC
Warren isn't hungry. Feliciano Vargas has been stuffing him with pasta all day and the powdered shit in the cafeteria doesn't look remotely appetizing.

He sits with his elbow on the table. How long are they going to be stuck here? Warren needs some pencils and paper. He can't go for long without sketching...something. Even his tattoo inks. He'd take any of those right now.

Space is supposed to be breathtaking. This ship's got the mysterious part down pat, but Warren just feels so restless all of a sudden.

Anyone get a hold of Kura? wantsababy June 21 2011, 03:54:38 UTC
Rosalie sat at the same table as the motley crew of oddities (mutants, they called themselves), uncomfortably smoothing the folds of her dress. Instant food, just add water. Rosalie hadn't eaten real food since the night she died. She didn't think she could. Or she had assumed she couldn't. But now she stared blankly at the instant cauliflower in front of her and wondered if she could do it.

Reluctantly, Rosalie picked up a head of cauliflower with her fork. She put it into her mouth and started chewing. Most of her taste buds were dead; she couldn't taste the vegetable in her mouth, even as her saliva broke it down. She swallowed. So far, so good. She almost rejoiced in that, something so simple as being able to eat real, human food.

She sat hunched over, away from the dim streams of light pouring from the decrepit ceiling.

Across the table, Warren gives Rosalie an incredulous stare.

"You're actually eating that shit? What's it taste like?"

Rosalie couldn't taste the vegetable. She hedged, wiping her mouth with a napkin. "Like cauliflower."

Somehow, Kurt didn't mind the powdered food. Maybe because he had come from the circus, where he was essentially categorized as one of the show animals and only ever given scraps to eat. It sort of amazed him, too, to watch real food spring up from the powdered, watery mess.

Of course, he had never seen mashed potatoes before so he spent a good deal of time staring at the instant food regardless.

Storm invited herself to sit across from Kurt, but she was more preoccupied with the sight of the damp sleeve covering his arm.

"Are you bleeding?"

"Not anymore." He looked up with a sheepish smile.

"And those marks on your face..." She couldn't help but stare. "Are they a part of your mutation?"
