Today I joined
janeausten,
_xaipe_ and
jason_the_jawa for an afternoon of bowling for a good cause: An organization called Hearts for Families, which from the brochure almost seemed like a local Make-a-Wish Foundation. The event was from 1-5 p.m., and $20 included three games of bowling, food, soda and some door prize tickets. There also were raffle prizes for which you could buy tickets, as well as silent auction items.
When we signed in we discovered there were changes to our lane assignment, and we were moved to lane 13 -- my favorite number! We all got our very fashionable bowling shoes and began to bowl.
Of the four of us, I think I was the only one there bowling with an agenda. A friend told me that if I broke 100 bowling, I would get a surprise. Well, the surprise is on him, because I not only broke 100 once, I broke it TWICE! 123 and 120! And that's not having bowled for many, many years.
(I would share photographic evidence of it with you, but my camera is being a little bitch and won't download the pictures I took, so I'll have to save that for another day.)
I don't know what the surprise is, but it better be good. ;o)
That was not the end of my lucky streak. During the games, if a different-colored pin was sitting in the No. 1 position and you got a strike, you won $5.
Yup, did that twice. :p
But wait! It's not over yet! I mentioned that they were selling raffle tickets for prizes. I tried and failed to win a case of wine (that would have been AWESOME), and then decided to buy $10 worth of tickets (15 tickets) for something I never really thought I wanted, but it was a bigger ticket item so I decided to take a chance. They ended up making more than $400 on just this prize.
The time came for them to call the winning number, and yours truly walked away with....
A NINTENDO WII!
I was so excited! Awhile back I was looking at the Wii Fit, but decided against it because you had to buy the Wii as well. Now, I don't have to worry about that! (Of course I just looked online and it appears the Wii Fit is out of stock for the next 40 years, so that will have to wait, but still!)
To the relief of my bowling companions, I didn't win anything else that day (I used my door prize tickets for the chance to win a $25 Visa gift card, $30 Target gift card and a $50 gas card for a local gas station).
So of course right after bowling I went out and bought a Powerball ticket. Hopefully my lucky streak isn't confined to the
AMF Bowlero.
