Bob McGinnPackers Jenkins out for season
Green Bay - Defensive end Cullen Jenkins of the Green Bay Packers will be placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle, according to a source close to the situation.
Jenkins suffered the injury as he reached out to sack quarterback Brian Griese Sunday in the Packers' 30-21 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The loss of Jenkins is a tremendous blow. He was off to the finest start of his five-year career, and his performance against the Bucs might have been his best.
The 305-pound Jenkins was a bastion of strength against the run and, along with Aaron Kampman, was one of the Packers' top two pass rushers.
Michael Montgomery probably will start at right end in the base defense, although rookie Jeremy Thompson will be rushed into duty as well.
Jenkins, the Packers' best inside pass rusher in the nickel defense, could be replaced by Montgomery or Jason Hunter. However, Hunter suffered a hamstring injury against Tampa Bay and his status was uncertain.
The Packers are expected to sign at least two defensive linemen. One move could be promoting defensive tackle from the practice squad.
