T-25…Well today officially I start my countdown to NYC (really my first day at gensler) . I officially started packing thing up things, throwing others away, and seeing what I’ll take with me immediately. It’s slowly sinking in day by day, and I look at things in a different light now. It’s weird because I wonder about, “when will I do or see this again? or, when will I be here or there again?” It’s stupid I know, but I think it’s how mentally I’ve slowly started accepting my moving away.
There are several things I still have to do besides packing.
(1).My College of Architects Membership is a big question: Will I have to now register in NY or stay registered here while I finally get my license? I prefer staying registerd here, but how that complicates things with my new bosses is what I want to find out. Gensler pays for my exams, study groups, books etc. and any other studying I may complete towards this end, which is why I have to deal with this.
(2).My car will stay here with my parents, so when I come back for vacation I have a usable car and they can also make the most of it when needed. I’ll still have to deal with the accident insurance issues Argh! Must call the bank & insurance agency!
(3).It's fucking COLD and I have to mentally get used to that. With the adorable
bearfuz (amongst others) reminding me through picture posts what awaits me in the Big Apple I just cringe… It’s been quite a few years since this bear has felt that cold. Given now I’m furrier, and carry a bit more natural insulation than 18 years ago, but Argh!
I’ve asked one of my friends who just moved back from Connecticut about a year ago to let me browse through his closet. He has a few unused jackets I may find handy. Yay warmth!
(4).I have two possible places I’ll be staying while I find my own apartment. Either I’ll be in Brooklyn or the Bronx with family for a few weeks. I’ve been researching online, but prefer to go see the apartments in person and see what I’m getting into. Any hints will be greatly appreciated!
(5).Officially I’m up there in the city by the 19th or 20th of February. So stay tuned! Lol. I still have to purchase my ticket, but sure about the dates. I want at least to have a few days to get used to travel options for work, besides it’s a perfect excuse to look around & meet my coworkers before I start. I have to be at the offices on Monday the 25th for training and my first day will be on the 26th.
So much to do…no mucho tiempo!
