So, while switching from my old laptop to my new one, I apparently replaced newer versions of fanfics with older ones. Meaning there's some 10k odd words in the wind.

Am going to bang my head against a wall now.

I cannot recommend services like dropbox or even google drive enough. It have saved me countless times.

Ah, but if you press the wrong button and skip replacing the older file with the newer one, you're screwed no matter where your stuff is stored.

That's the point, have back up and never more than one file.

That's a contradiction in terms and also doesn't cancel out the possibility to make that mistake.

I am not explaining this rigth. The file is not only stored localy and all versions are updated as changes are made to the file. You may lose what was written minutes before a crash but not more. Google documents even have history of changes that can be reverted to.
