Summer Craft Project #1

Jul 31, 2013 17:27

All year long, I made a list of things I want to make when I've got the time. Well, it's summer now and I've got time. And I got a decent headstart today.

First I finished painting the footstool I promised my mum to do... two years ago? I took off the old paint way back when and it's been standing around all ratty ever since. It's a shiny ruby red now.

And then I tried my hand at making my own notebook because that's been filed under 'potential Christmas craft project' for forever.

Step 1: Yesterday, I bugged my dad about something to make holes into a stack of paper with. He got grumpy, called me unprepared, and then gave me a ton of stuff I didn't use today. Hah!

Step 2: Gather da stuff.

Step 3: Cut regular printing paper into halves, stack them, neaten up the sides with a knife, fold the paper, make holes in the spine and sew it together.

Details!

Step 4: Cut cardboard a bit bigger than the future notebook paper, glue butcher paper to it and pretty it up using a pen, a stamp pad and the rubber end of a pencil.

Step 5: Sew a ribbon onto the cover.

Step 6: Copy the spine-holes of the paper onto the cover and sew the two parts together. Tie it off between cover and paper, then glue the first and last pages onto the cover. Let it dry and...

Step 7: Notebook!

I didn't really think the first attempt would be anything even approaching presentable, but I'm pretty damn proud of this. First try. Success! Go me!

Up next: The ongoing attempt of making a blanket out of four-round (read: tiny) granny squares.
