Rantings from the bonfire
I want to take this time to do something a bit contrary to our scene. I am going to celebrate life. Our lives. Our lives together as a scene under God's incredible and indelible grace. How we are purposely put together and undoubtedly need each other. How perhaps one eldergoth was here a brief and shining moment simply to force us to unite and be alive again; how perhaps, just perhaps he was caused by the Uncaused Cause of the Universe to be here not just to bring a child into this world but to bring a united scene into this world. Shall we squander that now or shall we do otherwise?
THURSDAY:
Had a great time [as I seem to always do] at what will be my last regular alchemy_dc at Nation. It was very cool to see so many awesome folk about, like of course the always-awesome Eddy, and Z, focalblur, deadmoonrising, groaninggirl and violinpadraic, oldsmobile_mike and Evie, Randy and Torrey and their gang of really hip freaks, Richard, and it was very cool to finally meet and have a nice long chat with pippilongstokin, med min andra modersmål.. and it was nice for that punk show to finally let up after being near claustrophobic on the concert side for what seemed to be an eternity, but that's just me.. Oh, great to see Bull after having a chance to talk with him at length via Myspace to discover, yes, we do have something in common, like, oh, GOD.. :) Also cool to finally and formally meet Patrick (Rinesin) whom I have seen out and about for quite some time now..
FRIDAY:
those_who_mourn had a Leadership meeting that went well. All six of us were there. I wish all six of us were.. THERE.. I mean, out there, in the Scene, more than just me (yep prosector, I warned you I'd vent). Good meeting though. I think Rick and Layla, David and Marian, Markus and myself know our roles and how best to support each other.
SATURDAY:
Saturday mornings ARE OF THE DEVIL!! Ugh, whose idea was it to get up at this ungodly hour anyway? Oh yeah, I forgot it was Freak Day at the Aquarium thus there was some form of redemption at hand. I drove to Alexandria where I saw the emergency vehicles there for the 30 condemned houses near where Markus lives, driving on my way to meet with Richard for the ride to Baltimore. Fell asleep all the way up there (yeah THAT is what you get of my attention span on a Saturday morning). There were a few of us that came.. *GASP* EARLY! That is soooo not gawth! ;) Ok actually it was great that there were people to meet Richard and me there: belladonnas_web, Rachel, Maeve and Scott.. then dreammuse and Corinne showed up a bit later, and as we waited in line sameoldtune and Virginia arrived. And as we trickled inside a nice crew of folk arrived including a long-time-no-see pleasant surprise to see hammerforge again with his brother Ian and Ian's girlfriend Alex, and I think their other brother, not sure.. then dj_phae was stuck in traffic but arrived a wee bit late with binarycognition.. As we were touring more people started showing up including two very cool people: oldsmobile_mike (with green hair! OH MY) and Evie. Then parad0cz joined us (YAY more those_who_mourn representation!) and we walked out and about making total aquatic spectacles of ourselves (we were the "other exhibit"!) and watching the fishes swim here and the fishes swim there..
Our group split up after we went to Hard Rock Cafe since hammerforge convinced people to hang with him for sushi (I was honestly torn, Sushi or Sasha? CRAP!). I stuck with the Hard Rock Cafe crew and had an awesome time while dreammuse was capturing our souls all day long.. it was just a lot of fun for everyone! Richard and I left after everyone parted, and yes, again, fell asleep in the car on the way back to Alexandria (refer again to Saturday mornings).. Hung out in Arlington for a brief bit, got some really strange scallop seafood dish in Chinatown (the African guy yelling at the Chinese manager was more entertaining than the food!), then went to dcmidnight..
I honestly had a lot of fun at dcmidnight that night, since it was great to see a lot of the Freak Day @ the Aquarium krew show up and boogie (we bonded over fish, go figure), plus great to see Marti, Andrew, Ken, Christina and her Atenist friend Chris (haven't seen him in a year), Osiris, groaninggirl and violinpadraic, and met Adam for the first time (New to the scene, welcome him warmly, remember why you should), and also Matt for the first time.. great to see scarydavedc and heleneotroy back from their beach vacation (and still not as dark as I.. muahahaha).. and of the FD Gang that showed up that night (oldsmobile_mike, Evie, hammerforge's brother Ian and his girlfriend Alex), we were missing only a few people but we managed of course to enjoy ourselves..
I left late after talking with a drunken "pharonic" type, Johnny (hey that was Chris' comment!), I left at 3am after tuath13 left (oh and also got to see slyx in a suit talking to her), when I saw this guy on a scooter that I saw many times often in the scene and all that night that, for some reason, I didn't talk to.
And now I never will.
SUNDAY:
My monitor blew out! The one that my roommate reattached to my computer after his monitor blew out and took back the one I was borrowing (thanx for telling me, grrrr). So I had to go to Kinko's in Fairfax near GMU to check email, Myspace, LJ, etc.
And that is when I found out about the guy on the scooter. I am still recovering from the news. And part of me still angry at myself for never making the opportunity to at least say hello. And now I never will.
I had the horrible task of having to tell the Gang the news. Most of them knew Bagel very well and were completely devastated. David and Marian had already known about his death earlier that day from finding out from mutual friends in the scene. It was a time for us to join together and celebrate God putting us together, and so we did. We met with Rich Hurst for our monthly meeting (we all declined to tell Rich about this as he doesn't know anyone in the scene but us), and then went to Fridays with Sarah, Amy, Dan and dreammuse where we again saw our FD @ Aquarium pics.
We parted ways and I went to corrosion_dc talking with groaninggirl and violinpadraic about a hideous aqua-and-brown polo shirt, about World Cup stuff, and having a nice follow-up chat with prosector about those_who_mourn. Had a chance to see oldsmobile_mike and Evie again, and some brief spinning by jesusbunny and some DJs I didn't even know.. Good to be together..
