I've been a massive fan of Radiohead (I listened to The Bends a _lot_), but not so much of their more recent stuff. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think.
Yeah, OK Computer was the changnig point - where they went from Rock (with some electronica) to Electronica (with some rock). Which is why that album is popular with both groups, but the ones either side of that line tend to put off one of the groups.
That certainly fits with aftnn.org - a big electronica fan - only liking their later stuff. But as a fan of both rock and electronica, I might even enjoy all of it :-)
So far, though, the guitarist is hands-down the best thing about the group. I'll need some convincing that moving to a less guitar-heavy sound was a good move for them...
That doesn't surprise me. OK, let me re-phrase: the best thing about their sound in Pablo Honey (and, come to that, at least as far as half-way through OK Computer) was the guitar.
I really meant that you had no reason to fear instrumental incompetency -- I didn't mean to correct you re: vocabulary (that would have been a ridiculous nitpick, especially since I'm sure he would refer to himself as "the [lead] guitarist" or "a guitarist").
I see that they have three guitarists, at least two of whom have been rated among the best in the modern era in polls (polls of whom, I can't be bothered to check right now).
I assumed you were referring to Jonny Greenwood; he plays lead. He does consistently end up on those kinds of lists. (He also wrote the score for There Will Be Blood.)
