This was fractionally too long for Twitter

Judging by the sentiment on news aggregator Reddit at the time, the 2008 US presidential election should have been a straight fight between Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul.

This means that at least one member of the set { Reddit, the US electoral system } is wildly unrepresentative of the American people. And I'm honestly not sure which one I'd pick as the less representative. Despite the stereotypes, Reddit's actually frequented by an astonishingly diverse group of people (though all of its users have Internet access, obviously), and the problems with the electoral system (fundraising, media exposure) are well documented.

US readers: I'm not getting at you. Our setup is in many ways worse.
